Optimism

My husband, Tom, is the epitome of optimism.  It is one of the traits I love about him the most.  He never questions whether he should start seedlings for our vegetable garden.  He simply does it.  Here are photos of the nearly 1000 vegetables he seeded last month.  Winter squash, summer squash, heirloom tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, leeks, onions, and herbs all germinated and have been growing abundantly, side-by-side with his optimism.  Pzazzed possibility!

To be a gardener, one has to have a sense of optimism.  To be a gardener in Duluth, one has to have a deluded sense of optimism.  Hmmmmm.....maybe any person who lives in Duluth where we received 13" of snow in the past two days is called a  "Deludian".  Why would we live here, you might ask.  The awesome raw beauty of Lake Superior, the variety of outdoor activities available in all seasons, the generous and resilient people, the quality of fresh air, and the magnificent wooded trails and park systems all outweigh the dramatic weather in my opinion.
